PERKINSTON, MISSISSIPPI - Eula Mae Scroggins, 82, passed away on June 16, 2008, at Wesley's Medical Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Father Bill Bartniski will officiate assisted by Father Fintan Kilmurray of Wiggins, Mississippi. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas immediately after the church service on Saturday. A visitation for the family and friends will take place Thursday, June 19, 2008, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston with a Roseary at 6 p.m.
Eula was born June 21, 1925, to James Leonard King and Bernice Helton King in Lyman, Mississippi. She made her way to Galveston in the early 1960's, and began working for Galveston ISD in food service where she retired.
Eula was a dedicated wife, devoted mother, grandmother and a religiously devoted Christian woman. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Galveston, Texas where she was a member of the Alter Society and an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Wiggins, Mississippi.
Preceded in death by husband Cotton Scroggins, parents James and Bernice King, son, James "Jim" Hill, sister, Thelma Buley. Eula is survived by a loving son, Robert "Bobby" Hill and Elise; sisters Elouise Johnson, Virginia Mearu Boykin and Leota Plummer; stepdaughter Loraine Post; stepson Dewayne Scroggins. Other survivors include grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many other nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Pallbearers will be Richard Bostelmann, James Benham, Tony Eliaz, Joe Eliaz, Manuel Betacourt and Jamie Benham.
Honorary pallbearers are Deacon William Bobb and Donasiano Eliaz.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Peter's Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
