Message: John W. Bruce III March 4, 1911 — Nov. 28, 2007 John William Bruce III, 96, passed away Nov. 28, 2007. Mr. Bruce was born March 4, 1911, in Toronto, Canada, the son of the late John William Bruce II and Alice Maude Ripkey. He was a member of Amanda Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Crossville, the Sphinx Temple and the Masonic Lodge in Madison, CT, the Cumberland County Shrine Club and Scottish Rite in Crossville and the Alhambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga. Survivors include his wife, Arlie A. Scroggins Bruce of Jamestown; sons, David Bruce and wife Becky of Knoxville and Gorden Bruce and wife Sally of New Milford, CT; daughter, Lana Lawless and husband Tom of Crossville; Swedish son, Steve Trygg and wife Karin of Switzerland; stepsons, Ronnie Beaty and wife Flonnie of Jamestown, Don Beaty and wife Shirley of Crossville an Kevin Beaty and wife Shannon of Crossville; stepdaughters, Darleena Brady and husband Roger of Crossville, Carleena Griner and husband Tony of Crossville, Alleta Stepp and husband Leon of Clarkrange, Juanita Rains and husband Frankie of Jamestown and Diannia Young and Bob of Alabama; grandchildren, Bill Bruce and wife Kim of Crossville, Bonnie Ashburn and husband Terry of Crossville and Bruce England and wife Leslie of Oak Ridge; great-grandson, Deric Swim; step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; niece and nephews in Canada; and a host of close relatives in Australia, France and Switzerland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Elizabeth Devaux; and sisters, Amy Bruce, Hazel Askew and Alice Greer.
