Message: Lavene Brewer [4652] NACOGDOCHES - Services for Lavene Brewer, 79, Nacogdoches, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Homer L. Murray officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery under direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches. Mrs. Brewer died July 25, 2007, in Nacogdoches. She was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Nacogdoches County to Warren and Nancy "Nannie" Scroggins. She retired from Moore Business Forms after 17 years and worked for Garrison Post Office 10 years and also wrote articles for the Garrison newspaper. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Auxiliary at Nacogdoches Medical Center and Holly Springs Baptist Church. She was a member of the Moore Retirement Club and secretary-treasurer of Holly Springs Cemetery and Cedar Bluff Community Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Brewer, on June 2, 2004; daughter, Gloria Jean Wallace; and great-granddaughter, Kristin Holliman. Survivors include sisters, Viola Garrett Reed, Iva Lee Thompson and Nannie Mae Johnson, all of Garrison, Vera Wilson, Nacogdoches; brothers, John Alton Scroggins and Bobby Langston Scroggins, both of Garrison; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. Pallbearers will be Cody Justus, Joey Jackson, Danny L. Garrett, James A, Garrett, Brandon Scroggins and William Shockley. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Deep East Texas, 907 N. Mound, Nacogdoches, 75961, or Holly Springs Building Fund, 16928 N. U.S. Highway 59, Garrison, 75946.
