Notice for Loran C. Lewis Sr.

Message: Loran C. Lewis Sr. PhotoLoran C. Lewis, Sr. age 82 passed away April 21, 2007 at Midland Hospice in Topeka, KS. Loran was the third child of Oscar and Elva Lewis. He was born September 16, 1924 in Topeka, KS. Loran married Lois Gwendolyn Riley March 26, 1943 in Topeka, KS where the family settled and raised 14 children. Loran Lewis was a retired Army Veteran having served as a Corporal in 1942-1946 at Camp Beale, California. He was the first African American Passenger Carman at Santa Fe Railroad. At the time of his death he was a member of the Church of God Fellowship at Topeka, KS. 3 Children preceded him in death, Lydia M. Smith, Jeffrey W. Lewis and Lee Edward Lewis. Survivors include 2 brothers, Leon Lewis of Denver, CO, Lester Lewis of Topeka, one sister, Irma Lewis Scroggins of Topeka. 11 children 5 sons Loran Jr. Baltimore, MD, John, Topeka, James, Grandview, MO., Clifton, Topeka and Alexander, Grandview, MO.; 6 daughters, Loretta Wall, Columbia, MD., Lois Thompson, Baltimore, MD., Leitha Bailey, Topeka, Lesley Lewis, Topeka, Altha Austin, Randallstown, MD., and Zelma Jones, Atlanta, GA. Loran lovingly called Dad Lewis was known for his quick wit, dry humor, faith, wisdom and his love for his highland Park Scots. In-State: Sunday, April 29: 4-8 pm.; Service: Monday, April 30: 11 am. both at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel. The family will also be receiving friends and offers of personal condolences at 2408 SE Monroe Street. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery immediately following the service. Loran C.
