Son of F. D. and Lela Scroggins.

Husband of Willie Ree Guary.

Father of Luther Scroggins, Jr., Betty Oswald, Dorothy Ballard, Hilliard Scroggins.

He was educated in the public school system and gave his life to Christ at an early age at the Flat Rock Baptist Church.

After moving to Aberdeen, Md., he joined the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Milton C. Phillips. He was an active and faithful member. He taught Sunday School and was very involved with the youth. After a time, he became a Trustee and worked diligently until his health failed.

He spent a tour of duty in the U. S. Army and spent the remainder of his working years at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. where he retired as shift supervisor. Bro. Scroggins was an involved parent and worked with the Boy Scouts under Scout Master Bernard Christy. He also worked with his wife who was a den mother for nine years. He was a member of VFW Post 6054, Aberdeen, Md. and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1522, Havre de Grace, Md.

Luther Scroggins, age 88 of Aberdeen, MD died November 30, 2006 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD. He was born in Tallasee, Elsmore County, Alabama to the late F. D. and Lela Scroggins and had eleven siblings. He was educated in the public school system and gave his life to Christ at an early age at the Flat Rock Baptist Church. He married Willie Ree Guary, and they were blessed with four children. After moving to Aberdeen, Md., he joined the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Milton C. Phillips. He was an active and faithful member. He taught Sunday School and was very involved with the youth. After a time, he became a Trustee and worked diligently until his health failed. He spent a tour of duty in the U. S. Army and spent the remainder of his working years at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. where he retired as shift supervisor. Bro. Scroggins leaves to cherish loving memories of him his devoted wife, Willie; daughters Betty (Malko) Oswald, San Antonio, TX and Dorothy (Harry) Ballard, Edgewood, MD; son, Hilliard Scroggins, Aberdeen, MD; thirteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; brothers, John (Jennie) Scroggins, Charleston, SC, Stephen (Parlea) Scroggins, Baltimore, MD, Jesse (Betty) Scroggins, Mansfield, Ohio, Frank (Lula) Scroggins, Youngstown, Ohio and Nehemiah Scroggins, Birmingham, AL; sisters Louise Buchanan, Vincent, Ala., Ruth Christobal and Joann Banks, Tallassee, AL and Miriam Bartley and husband, Bellhaven, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Luther Scroggins, Jr., a brother, David Scroggins, New York and sister, Jenetta Davidson, Akron, Ohio. Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6 2006 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 520 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD where friends may call starting at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be in St. James United Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association c/o Lisa Scott Funeral Home, P.A.
