George Fred Schmitt III
Schmitt, George Fred III Auburn, Michigan George Fred Schmitt III, age 63, of Auburn, died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was born July 14, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late George F. and Dorothy Faye (Maltsberger) Schmitt, Jr. George retired from Newcor Inc. of Bay City after 34 years. An avid outdoorsman, George had been a member of the Saginaw Carvers Association where he won many awards for his carvings. George is survived by his wife Margaret, whom he married May 1, 1981 in Bay City; children: James David Schmitt of Saginaw, Sarah (Daniel) Ratley of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Rod (Jennifer) Bedell of Pinconning, Emily (Dan) Wolfgang of Midland; and grandchildren: Brittany, Dylan, Ashley, Daniel Ratley, Phoebe Wolfgang; brothers and sisters: William (Mary Ann) Schmitt, Robert Schmitt, Mae (Guy) Scroggin and Dorothy (Cecil) Ott, all of San Antonio, TX; and special sister-in-law Ann (Tim) Stube of Beaverton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from St. Brigid Catholic Church with Rev. Father James Wm. Bessert as celebrant. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery. George's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland, on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Christian Vigil service will take place 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, Ducks Unlimited, or St. Brigid Catholic Church.
