Deceased Name: J.E. 'Jake' Scroggins

KELLER - J.E. 'Jake' Scroggins, 90, longtime Amarillo resident, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, in Grapevine.

Services were at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo by Lucas & Thompson Funeral Home.


Mr. Scroggins was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Boyd to John Ed and Isa Bell Scroggins. He grew up in Wise County. J.E. married Pauline Parish in 1941.

He served in the Navy during World War II as a petty officer in the Sea Bees in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from the war, he was employed by Cooper and Woodruff Highway Construction (Amarillo Road), building highways all over Texas for 36 years.

Mr. Scroggins was a faithful member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for 51 years, serving on numerous committees. He was a resident of Amarillo for 53 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sibling; and a son, Benny.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; a daughter, Paula Ezzell; a son, James Scroggins and wife, Regina; a daughter-in-law, Rosie Scroggins; grandchildren, Christie Herman and husband, Tony, Eric Scroggins, Michaela Scroggins, Brian Scroggins and wife, Loren, Jodi Scroggins, Nichole Scroggins, Valerie Ecton and husband, Mark; great-grandchildren, Blake and Haley Herman, McKenna, Jay and Regan Scroggins, Ashley, Mathew and Ben Ecton; a sister-in-law, Naoma Parish; a brother-in-law, Leon Parish; and numerous other relatives.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.
