Let Us Pause.... To Honor the Memory of MARY S. ADAMS
Mrs. Mary S. Adams, age 80, of Madison, passed away at 4:02 am on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
Born October 5, 1923, in Switzerland County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Grover & Mamie Brandon Scroggins, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the wife of William H. “Bill” Adams, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage from Dec. 22, 1941 until his death on Feb. 13, 2000.
Mrs. Adams was a native of Switzerland County and had lived in the local community all of her life. During World War Two, she worked at the Charlestown Ammunition Plant and later worked at the former Jefferson Proving Ground. She retired from the US Shoe Corp in the late 1980’s after working there many years. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Adams enjoyed her family and gardening. She was a member of the Manville Christian Church and was a member of the Ladies Circle of the First Christian Church of Hanover.
Mrs. Adams will be missed by her four daughters & sons-in-law, Janice & Peyton Ligon, of Birmingham, AL; Bonnie & Tim Auxier and Patty & Mike Frazier, all of Dupont, IN; Cheryl & Jim Ashby, of Madison; two sons & daughters-in-law, William Joseph & Sherilyn Adams, of Hawaii; Daniel & Judy Adams, of Zellwood, FL; 18 grandchildren, Debbie Melville, Barry Adams, Leilani Adams, Isa Center, Luana Keakeahani, James Adams, Daniel Adams, Carol Elburg, Troy Adams, Eric Adams, Shannon Harrison, Elizabeth Ligon, Tim Auxier, Jr., Mark J. Auxier, Jamie Ashby, John Ashby, Andrea Revello and Drew Frazier; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Violet Jones, of Jeffersonville, IN; one brother, Russell Scroggins, of Madison, several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, MrMrs. Adams was preceded in death by one son, John Lynn Adams, in 1997 and three brothers, Raymond Lee Scroggins, Harold Scroggins and Grover Scroggins, Jr.
Mrs. Adams will be remembered in a funeral ceremony conducted by Rev. Gene Kitts and Evangelist John Davis at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 pm on Monday, April 5, and 9-11 am on Tuesday, April 6, at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the family’s Relay For Life team, John’s Hole-In-One, or to the Manville Christian Church Youth. Cards are available at the funeral home and the church."
