Deceased Name: MARION LEROY SCOGGINS, 84 FORMER OWNER OF BUSINESSES IN CARROLLTON AND KANE
Marion LeRoy Scoggins, a retired business owner, died April 21, 2003, at his home in Carrollton from complications of diabetes. He was 84.
Mr. Scoggins was born in Bluffdale Township to Henry and Mary Scoggins. At the age of 21, he married Lucille Marie Sonnenberg.
Mr. Scoggins held several jobs, including working as a farm hand, at the Carrollton Brick Yard and as a farm manager at Rose Schnelten before starting a poultry business in 1962. While operating that business, Mr. Scoggins bought Hunters Horn Tavern in north Carrollton.
He operated both businesses until they were sold in 1968. Later that year, Mr. Scoggins opened Kane Tavern, which he ran until he retired in 1974.
Mr. Scoggins worked for the White Hall and Jerseyville Veterans of Fo reign Wars clubs and was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.
Among survivors are his wife, Lucille Scoggins; three daughters, Donna Nonneman and Sherry Flatt, both of Carrollton, and Marty Grafford of Kane; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial was at Richwood Cemetery in Carrollton.
