MOUNT ZION - Opal Marie Allen-Merlo, 91, of Mount Zion died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003).

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials: Heritage Manor Nursing Home or donor's choice.

Opal was born Jan. 28, 1912, in Decatur, the daughter of Alva and Maude Powell Scroggins . She was a homemaker and attended the Methodist Church most of her life. She married Roland Allen in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Frank Merlo in 1972 and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Surviving are her daughters, Sheila (Donald) Brunner of Oakley; Beverly Fink of Mount Zion; sister, Emogene Carroll of Decatur; son-in-law, Bruce (Jackie) Fink; niece, Evelyn of Chicago; cousin, Juanita (Kenneth) Hart of Springfield; special friends, Ron Smith, Bessie Grolla and Kurt (Lynette) Bricker; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to the entire staff and extended family of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Dr. D. Patel, Dr. G. Patel and Dr. Atluri, as well as their staff.
