Robert E. Starr, 91, diversity manager for the Federal Aviation Agency and civil rights advocate, entered rest Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2823 N. Houston St. Interment: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at historic Baker Funeral Home, with wake 6 to 7 p.m. Robert E. Starr was born April 6, 1924, to Clarence and Henrietta Harden Starr. He was a longtime member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as chairman of the Deacon Board, a Sunday school teacher and member of the Male Chorus. Robert was a 1939 graduate of historic I.M. Terrell High School. He earned a BA in education at Texas College and a master of education at Texas Southern University. Bob served honorably in the United States Army. Mr. Starr worked as a teacher and principal at Amanda McCoy School in Fort Worth. He was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency and held many Equal Opportunity posts on local, state and national levels. Mr. Starr worked as project director on the Texas Commission on Human Rights, director of Affirmative Action for Fort Worth, investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and director of EEO for Tarrant County. Bob was active in many community and civic activities, including United Negro College Fund, Minority Leaders Luncheon and Sickle Cell Anemia Association. He worked with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on many levels: local vice president, several state assignments and member of the national board of directors from 1988 to 2000. He also served on boards of Community Action Agency and United Negro College Fund. He was a Master Mason and member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; wife, Robbie Scroggins Starr [54211:&]; and daughter, Barbara Ann Starr [54212:&]. Survivors: Nieces, Doris Ann Smith (Manuel), Joe Ella Sims, Alice Faye Headroe, Dollye Starr Thomas (Curtis), Jo Ree Graves and Darlene Randall (Craig); nephew, Johnny Lee Starr (Clara); other family members; and many friends.
