And Ancestry has images of two birth certificates for him. Both show 30 Oct 1918 as his birth date.
The original certificate (4 Dec 1918) shows him as John Lewis Scroggins, son of Jno. W. Scroggins and Sallie Willis.
A "Duplicate Certificate filed for purposes of correction" (not dated) shows him as John Louis Scroggins, son of James Walter Scroggins and Sallie Debra Willis.
The Houston Chronicle had an 11 Feb 2001 obituary for him as Johnnie Louis Scroggins (4 star edition, page 40). I have the citation butnot the text.
His widow, Daisy Curtis Scroggins died 8 Dec 2014.
He may have had an earlier wife.
