Carrie Scroggins

ALTON - Carrie M. Scroggins, 89, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 1995, at Blue Fountain Manor in Godfrey.


She was a licensed practical nurse and worked for the state of Illinois in several agencies.  She loved nursing and caring for people and did so for 40 years.  An avid cook and singer, she loved sewing and craft work.  She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Alton.


Born Dec. 16, 1905, in Craighead County, Ark., she was a daughter of the late John Wilson and Ruth Pauline (West) Booten.


She married James "Guy" Scroggins Nov. 12, 1942 in St. Charles, Mo.  He died Sept. 1, 1977.
Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Montague and Grace Frohock, both of Alton; two nieces, Dorothy Faye Murray of Algones, N. M., and Barbara Kay Lolley of Little Rock, Ark.; a nephew, Jerry Montague of Godfrey; six great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.


Two infant brothers preceded her in death.


Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church, 4712 N. Alby, Godfrey, with the Rev. Trennis Killian officiating.


Visitation and viewing will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg, with graveside services to follow.


Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member.
