John Scroggins [29211:K], Mt. Vernon
John Bascum Scroggins, 70, 1601 Cherry, was dead on arrival yesterday at 2:30 p.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital after he suffered a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with Rev. Rolla Eller and Rev. Russell Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery.
Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 5:00 p.m. today.
Mr. Scroggins was born in Saline County on August 16, 1900, the son of John H.[16762] and Nancy (Patton) [16782] Scroggins. He was married to Bernice Dycus Etheridge [?], who survives.
He was a retired boilermaker, and a member of Boilermakers Local 363.
Mr. Scroggins is survived by his wife; four sons, Orval [32733], Joe [32728], Rudy 14435], and Norval [27889] Scroggins, all of Alton; one daughter, Ruby Baum [32726], Alton [?]; one step-daughter, Norma Colbert, Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Guy Scroggins [29213], Harrisburg, and Joe Scroggins [14229], Ottawa; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanche [32725], in 1958.
