Local Hardware Owner, Leonard Scroggins Dies at 77
Services were held Monday, April 19, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Oregon, for Leonard Scroggins, 77, who passed away Thursday, April 15, at his home, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Scroggins was born on June 5, 1921 in Forbes. He was one of twelve children born to Jess Lee [4864] and Sadie May (Guyer) [32245] Scroggins. He attended school in Forbes and later served on the Forbes Board of Education.

On February 14, 1940, he married Bernita C. Barrett [32302] in Oregon. They were the parents of five sons, LaVerne, Forbes; Larry, Oregon; Francis [43948], Maitland; Vick, Forest City; and David, Forbes.

Leonard entered the United States Navy in October 1943. During World War II, he and seven of his siblings served in various branches of the military at the same time. He served overseas as a radarman and was discharged on Christmas Day, 1945.

In the early 1970's, Leonard and Bernita began operating Scroggins' Hardware, on the square in Oregon. That partnership lasted until Bernita passed away October 17, 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernita; sister, Lila Blakely; his twin brother, Lawrence; an infant brother; and brothers, Conrad, Jesse, Keith, and Gerald.
