INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for George C. Scroggins Jr., 86, a farmer of Indianola, will be today at 2 p.m. at Moorhead United Methodist Church, Moorhead. He died May 15, 2003, at St. Dominic Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Mr. Scroggins' ancestors settled in Baird in 1843. Each generation has continued to farm the land. He was still active in farming. He was an excellent authority on the history of Sunflower County and surrounding Delta areas. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Moorhead United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Ellen Kathryn Wamble Scroggins [39509]; one daughter, Valarie Scroggins Swinney of Jackson; three sons, George C. Scroggins III of Indianola, Albert Thornhill Scroggins of Barksdale, Texas, and Thomas D. Scroggins of Lake Providence, La.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Moorhead United Methodist Church.

Mr. Scroggins, the widower of Ellen Kathryn Wamble Scroggins [38509], leaves a daughter, Valarie Scroggins Swinney of Jackson; three sons, George C. Scroggins III of Indianola, Albert Thomhill Scroggins of Barksdale, Texas, and Thomas D. Scroggins of Lake Providence, La., seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The family requests that memorials be sent to Moorhead United Methodist Church.
