Leland W. Scroggins, 86, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville.
He was born July 27, 1919, in Bunker Hill to Jesse Edward [279:L, FaG] and Mabel Grace (Tipton) [305:L, FaG] Scroggins.
He married the former Thelma Dunham [478:L, FaG] on May 5, 1945, in Bunker Hill.
He grew up in Bunker Hill on the family dairy farm. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He moved to Mulberry Grove in 1957 and was a salesman for H.P. Fuller. He was a member of the Mulberry Grove United Methodist Church, Gilham Lodge 809, where he was Past Master, Mulberry Grove American Legion Post 1180, where he was Past Commander, a charter member of the Mulberry Grove Lions Club and Order of the Eastern Star, where he was Past Worthy Matron.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Scroggins [514:L, fb, FaG] of Bethalto; a daughter, Bev Crandall [518:L, fb] of Mulberry Grove; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Scroggins [487:L] of Bunker Hill and Eugene Scroggins [491:L, FaG] of Edwardsville; and a sister, Violetta Loveless [473:L] of Alton.
He was preceded in death by a son, James L. Scroggins [510:L, FaG]; three brothers, David [485:L], Paul [489:L] and Frank [493:L]; and four sisters, Evelyn Bloomfield [475:L], Mae Hill [479:L], Winifred Gosch [481:L], and Bernice Johnson [483:L]
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with 8 p.m. Masonic services, at Mulberry Grove United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Marshall Semingson will officiate.
Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bunker Hill Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Mulberry Grove American Legion Post 1180.
Memorials may be made to Mulberry Grove United Church of Christ, Gillham Lodge 809 or the Mulberry Grove Aces softball team.

Paul D. Hofgren, 84, died at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis County. He was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Aurora, Ill., to Paul F. and Helen Duval Hofgren.
He married the former Dorothy A. Owen on Dec. 29, 1945, in Alton. She survives.
A U.S. Navy World War II veteran, he was a butcher at Hofgren Grocery in East Alton for 37 years and an accountant at Jefferson Smurfit Corp. for 15 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Wood River Masonic Lodge 1062 for 57 years, a past patron of the Eastern Star, a member of the Anaid Shrine, the East St. Louis Scottish Rite and Wood River Order of DeMolay and a leader of a Boy Scout Explorer troop. He loved golfing, camping and weaving.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Hofgren of Fosterburg and Dennis and Donna Hofgren of Alton; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Gerald Scroggins of Bethalto; six grandchildren, Brandon and Anthony Hofgren, Dana Middleton, Anna Durbin, Katie Hofgren and Zachary Scroggins; two great-grandchildren, Kara Middleton and Morgan Hofgren; and a sister, Dorothy Morehead of Wood River.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until services at noon by Wood River Masonic Lodge 1062, followed by funeral services, all at Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church in Alton. The Rev. David Olson will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, with full military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to Twelfth St. Presbyterian Church in Alton.
Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights is in charge of arrangements.

Tony Rigoli, O.M.I. Recitation of the rosary was at the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Plaquemine. ""T.J'' was a talented artist, who had been a member of Boy Scouts of America, Livingston Boys Club and an instructor of Blue Lion Karate Club under Master O'Neal in New Orleans. ""T.J'' served as an alter server at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He graduated from Marian Abramson High School. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he graduated from Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. After his discharge from the Marines, he later joined the New Orleans Police Department Training Academy. After a brief tour of duty during Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Baton Rouge. Born Jan. 26, 1918, in Aurora, he died Monday, May 15, 2006, at the RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale. Lou was a 1938 graduate of East Aurora High School and on Feb. 3, 2006, he was inducted into the East Aurora High School Sports Hall of Fame. He was an insurance broker for 50 years, retiring from Lincoln National Life, located in Fort Wayne, Ind. Golf was his passion, being the first amateur to win the Illinois Open. In 1938, he played in the Masters in Augusta, Ga., and in the U.S. Open. He again played in the U.S. Open in 1947 and during his golfing career, he shot 13 holes-in-one. Lou served his country with the Coast Guard with part of his service time in Europe from December 1943 to July 1944, and was a participant in the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach. Lou volunteered his time at Lincoln Jr. High School for six years, over 18 years at Edward Hospital, was a member of the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club and a member of the Judd Kendall VFW Post #3873. He was named honorary golf coach for the North Central College Women's Golf Team. He is survived by his wife, Alice Trierweiler (nee Scroggins) of Naperville; his children, Robert (Jean Laughlin) Trierweiler of Geneva, Susan (Robert) Rook of Naperville and Jerry Trierweiler of Naperville; a sister, Elinor Wake of Geneva; and his grandchildren, Colin, John and Katherine Trierweiler, and Brad and Allison Rook. STURGILL Kathryn (Mullin) Sturgill, age 87 passed away at Scioto Community on May 6, 2006. Kathryn was born in Magoffin County, KY on April 19, 1919, to Kennie and Eda (Wireman) Mullin. She moved to OH as a child. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Sturgill Sr., daughter Ellen Louise Smith, son Kenneth Levi Sturgill, and 10 brothers and sisters. Survived by children, Dorothy Jones of Cincinnati, Loretta (Robert) Shaw of Houston, TX, Geneva Fox of Laurelville, OH, and Vernon (Cindy) Sturgill Jr. of Amanda, OH; son-in-law, Charles Smith of Patriot, OH; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Louella (Lowell) Powell, Earlene Skeels and Emma (Johnny) Scroggins; sisters-in-law, Mary (Leroy) Scott of VA and Mona Knipp of Lawrence County; numerous relatives and friends. She worked for Decatur-Washington Local School District in Lawrence County before moving to Columbus. In Columbus she worked for Howard Johnson's, Western Electric, Ebco and retired from food service at Fisher Body in 1983. After retirement, she was active in Marion Square Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and canning her own vegetables. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 587 Main St. in Groveport, and from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Franklin Hills Memory Gardens. The family would like to thank all the professional health care workers who helped care for her. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Evie Lee Peel Trawick, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, May 2, 2006, in a Dothan hospital. She was 72.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with the Rev. Michael Whitt officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Texasville Cemetery in Barbour County. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church.

Ms. Trawick was born and reared in Louisville, daughter of the late Bonnie G. Smith and Evie Lee Scroggins Smith. She lived near Texasville before moving to Abbeville in 1980. Ms. Trawick was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville.
Mrs. Trawick was preceded in death by her former husbands, Franklin Eugene Peel and D. A. Trawick; a son, Kevin Peel; and sister, Bonnie Jean Scott.

Mr. James G. "Jim" O'Nan
Mr. James G. O'Nan, age 63, of 302 Green Road, Madison, Indiana entered this life on August 19, 1942, in Madison, Indiana, the son of Thurman Pierce & Anita Lucille Cole O'Nan, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Madison High School. He was inducted into the United States Navy serving for four years when he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage in January 1968, to Evelyn Dunlap and to this union arrived two daughters to bless their home. He was employed for 43 years with Reliance Electric Company in Madison, retiring from the maintenance department. He was later united in marriage to Patricia Ann Taylor on July 3, 1986 in Carrollton, Kentucky. He enjoyed playing Golf, Camping especially at a 1000 Trails Indian Lakes in Batesville, his USSR Truck, U of L Basketball, NASCAR especially driver Tony Stewart and his family. He was a member of the North Madison Baptist Church. Jim died on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 3:15 pm at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Frank McGee, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison, Indiana, with full miltiary honor's conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion.

Mr. James G. "Jim" O'Nan
Mr. James G. O'Nan, age 63, of 302 Green Road, Madison, Indiana entered this life on August 19, 1942, in Madison, Indiana, the son of Thurman Pierce & Anita Lucille Cole O'Nan, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Madison High School. He was inducted into the United States Navy serving for four years when he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage in January 1968, to Evelyn Dunlap and to this union arrived two daughters to bless their home. He was employed for 43 years with Reliance Electric Company in Madison, retiring from the maintenance department. He was later united in marriage to Patricia Ann Taylor on July 3, 1986 in Carrollton, Kentucky.
