Gladys Conner Scroggin [44133]

Gladys Conner Scroggin passed away on March 19, 2006, in Plano, Texas, where she resided in Heritage Manor Medical Center since June 2005. Born on July 7, 1920, in Cushing, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of U.S. and Frances Conner. The Conner family moved from Cushing to Oklahoma City in 1923. She graduated from Central High School and Blackwood Davis Business School. She married Hal Scroggin and resided in Shreveport, Louisiana for many years and returned to Oklahoma City after the death of her husband in 1974. She was a longtime member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, U. Sam Conner. She is survived by son, Dr. Don Scroggin, wife, Julie, and grandson, Patrick of Washington, D.C.; son, Stephen Scroggin, wife, Yvonne of Dallas, Texas; sister, Peggy Herring and husband, Gene of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in Shreveport, Louisiana, where her ashes will be interred in a grave beside her husband.

MAX GARCIA JUNE 8, 1913 - MARCH 9, 2006 Max passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the age of 92. He was born on June 8, 1913 in Juancho Rey, Zacatecas, Mexico.He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary; his brother, Felix and his sister, Juanita.

Max is survived by his two children; Lisa Scroggin and her husband Jim; Dan Garcia and his wife, Jennie; four grandchildren, Andrea Pezoldt and her husband, Brad, Ray Scroggin, Karen Garcia and Annie Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Max Pezoldt; brother, Manuel Garcia and sisters, Penny Casado, Marie Biagi & Benita Tirado, many nieces and nephews.

Max was a long time resident of Riverbank, CA before moving to Fresno. In Riverbank, he was a member of St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church, a past member of the Lion's Club, volunteer Fire Department and the Riverbank Housing Authority. In Fresno he was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4440.

A special thank you to the staff at Nancy Hinds Hospice and at Somerford Place for their care and concern during Max's illness.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Rosary.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank, CA at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006. Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Modesto, CA.

Tony Ray Worford, 45, a native of Topeka, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Worford died of natural causes at his home. He was a captain of the Nashville Fire Department where he had been employed since 1991. He currently was president of the Vulcan Society of Nashville International Association of Black Professional Firefighters. Mr. Worford was born December 21, 1960 to Willie Worford III and Audrey Esquibel Worford. Mr. Worford was a graduate of Topeka High School. On October 27, 1979, he married Corliss Scroggins, also a native of Topeka, Kansas. From this union two children were born, Tony Ray Worford, II, a member of the United States Air Force, currently stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and Courtney Nichelle Worford of Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Worford is also survived by one grandchild, Jalen Ray Worford, his mother, Audrey Worford, three brothers, Michael, Greg, and Kent Worford a host of nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Worford III. Prior to moving to Nashville, Tn., Mr. Worford served on the Topeka Fire Department for approximately eight years. Mr. Worford was cremated. A home going service celebrating the life of Mr. Worford will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. The family will receive friends 10 - 11 with memorial service to follow at Capitol City Community Church of God. Private burial ceremony held with immediate family only at a later date.

BENJAMIN, KENNETH DELOSS Funeral for Kenneth Deloss Benjamin, 87, of Birmingham, AL, who died March 10, 2006 with his family by his side, will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with Rev. Rick Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. A native of Rockford, IL, Mr. Benjamin lived in Birmingham most of his life. He was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church and Faith Sunday School Class. He retired from Union Oil Company after 39 years of service and was a veteran of the US Army WWII. Also, he was a member of The Stockholm Masonic Lodge #828. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Louise Scroggins Benjamin; son, Kenneth D. (Lisa) Benjamin of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Pamela Gail Benjamin of Childersburg, AL; grandson, Jacob Benjamin and grand daughter, Jordan Benjamin both of Colorado Springs, CO.

Virginia L. Scroggin a former longtime resident of Wheaton Visitation for Virginia L. Scroggin, 53, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Michael Cemetery, Wheaton. Born May 2, 1952, she died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Bloomingdale Pavillion in Bloomingdale, after a long illness. Virginia grew up in Wheaton, where she attended the public schools and graduated from Wheaton North High School in 1970. She worked for 20 years as an operator for Illinois Bell. She is survived by her children, Neil A. Scroggin of St. Charles and April A. (George) Bobik of Bartlett; grandchildren, Emily Bobik, Rebecca Bobik and Forrest Scroggin; her father, Kenneth Cornelius; and former husband, Melvin Scroggin. Alvin Dugger []

Alvin Dugger, 82, of North Little Rock, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ. After graduating from Newark High School, he joined the CCC and then served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

Pepaw was an avid football and basketball fan who could be heard above all the crowds. He loved motivating his children and grandchildren to play their hardest and be their best in any sporting event and in their lives.

He also enjoyed working, gardening and fellowshipping. He was a gifted carpenter and handyman and he built many homes in central Arkansas over the years. He taught his family the importance of commitment, dedication and giving 100% at every task. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union and worked until he physically was not able. Gardening was one of his favorite hobbies and he enjoyed planting, harvesting and eating the fresh fruits and vegetables. Although his bride was the expert cook, over the years he became acclimated to the kitchen and boasted to prepare the best turkey and dressing.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Jean Dugger; four sons, John Dugger and wife, Linda, Gary Dugger, Tim Dugger, and Mark Dugger and wife, Terri, all of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Kevin Dugger, Kristin Melton and husband, Van, Ron Dugger, Jon Dugger, Ashley Miller, Dylan and Hannah Dugger; three great-grandchildren, Garet Melton, Savana Melton, and Abbi Miller.

Mr. Dugger was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Bina Lee Dugger; two brothers, Edgar and Calvin Dugger; four sisters, Irene Homesly, Allie Scroggins, Fannie King, and Ruby Roberson.

Memorials may be made to Children’s Homes, Inc., 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park. LOUISVILLE - Irene Mary Scroggins, 86, of Louisville passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at her home. She was born in Ferdinand, Ind., and was a retired dental assistant for more than 32 years for Dr. Arthur Welsh. Irene was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, the church's ladies guild and senior citizens and a member of the Buechellites. She is survived by her loving husband, Dan Scroggins Sr.; a son, Johnny Scroggins Jr. (Wendy); five daughters, Carol Krampe (Edward), Barbara Zoglmann (Pat), Jennifer Rosenbaum, Therese Haas and Mary Jo Absher (John); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2040 Buechel Bank Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at Ratterman & Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville. Memorial gifts may be directed to Mass of the Air of Hospice of Louisville.
